Malnutrition remains a pressing public health issue in Nigeria, particularly among children under five years old. It is associated with high morbidity and mortality rates and contributes to developmental delays, weakened immunity, and increased susceptibility to infections (Abdullahi et al., 2024). Nursing interventions, such as nutritional education, early screening, therapeutic feeding programs, and follow-up care, play a crucial role in combating malnutrition (Oladele & Uchenna, 2023).
Bauchi State has one of the highest rates of childhood malnutrition in northern Nigeria due to poverty, food insecurity, and poor maternal education (Yakubu & Bello, 2024). Despite government and non-governmental efforts to combat malnutrition, its prevalence remains high, raising concerns about the effectiveness of current nursing interventions.
This study seeks to examine the impact of nursing interventions on managing malnutrition among children under five in Bauchi State. The findings will help improve strategies for early detection, treatment, and prevention of childhood malnutrition.
Despite ongoing efforts to reduce childhood malnutrition, its prevalence remains high in Bauchi State (Ahmed & Danjuma, 2024). Many cases go undiagnosed or untreated due to inadequate healthcare access, lack of maternal awareness, and insufficient nutritional support (Ibrahim et al., 2023).
Nurses play a vital role in addressing malnutrition, yet there is limited research on how their interventions influence malnutrition outcomes in Bauchi State. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of nursing interventions in managing malnutrition among children under five.
The study focuses on healthcare facilities in Bauchi State where nurses manage malnourished children. Limitations include variations in healthcare access across communities and potential underreporting of malnutrition cases.
